Job Description

Position Summary:

Responsible for performing various duties to support the Credit Department of Meridian Equipment Finance (MEF).  The position is integral to MEF’s credit decision process, reviewing and analyzing customer credit information, making credit decisions within assigned credit authority, making recommendations regarding credit applications to senior management and assisting the Director of Credit with the overall management of the department and credit portfolio.

Qualifications Required:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance or related field
  • Minimum 5 to 10 years of previous leasing credit experience
  • Small to mid-ticket equipment finance experience preferred
  • Past independent credit authority
  • Ability to review and understand financial statements; balance sheets, income statements, cash flows, etc. and make written and verbal recommendations to senior management
  • Experience utilizing credit investigative tools, i.e. D & B, Paynet, Lexis Nexis and credit bureau reports
  • Ability to work in a team environment
  • Sound financial, analytical, and mathematical skills
  • Strong computer skills (MS Office, etc.)
  • High degree of attention to detail and ability to multitask
Essential functions and responsibilities:
  • Develops complete understanding of business and financial risks of potential borrower. Makes assessment of financial condition and performance and makes a sound independent credit decision within assigned credit authority
  • Makes reasoned recommendations to senior management; accurately stating lease/loan structure, an assessment of the customer’s credit/financial condition and associated risks, industry trends, and collateral values
  • Researches & verifies legal entity information; formation documents, ownership, management, existing debt and liens, etc.
  • Prepares financial statement summaries and spreads (when required) in accordance with generally accepted accounting practices
  • Assist in the review and approval of vendors and brokers
  • Assists the Director of Credit with portfolio monitoring and review of existing facilities and prepares reports as directed
  • Ability to calculate cash flow and debt service, assess personal and/or business income and debt service from financials and credit reports, and analyze and interpret ratios
  • Continuous development of financial and credit analysis skills through coursework, RMA Financial self-study courses; and ELFA seminars. Other coursework involving accounting, finance, and relevant case studies developed in-house at Meridian will be made available
  • Ensures compliance with operational risk controls in accordance with Meridian or regulatory standards and policies; and optimizes relations with regulators by addressing any issues. Notifies appropriate personnel of unique situations
  • Compiles, evaluates, and analyzes a broad range of borrowers, both businesses and individuals, within the equipment finance portfolio and works with the sales department to maintain and expand portfolios
